:) remarkable idea.. nicely done.
critique (imho): the lower portion of her skirt has a certain premature look.

Thanks.
As for the skirt, I thought, since it was denim, that letting the canvas show through might add some more realism. I might have been wrong about that.

Very original and an amasing ammount of detail, marvelous work. :)

:) my pleasure...
skirt: it works on the original canvas, i'm quite sure. here the brushmarks are the predominating impression.

It's wonderful Matthew,

I love the brushstrokes showing in her jean skirt. It's the perfect touch. AWSOME

I've been doing a lot of abstract painting lately. Extremely abstract. No brush, no paint, no canvas. I just think about it.

Your technique and execution is excellent as usual, but I don't like this painting. I'm not sure why but I find the concept boring. Take away Poe and put her arm down and I love it. Even Poe by himself with the hand I would like. I feel like something literal is being forced on me here. I like responding to art in a visceral way, and this one seems to be nagging me to come up with some verbal translation/interpretation. It might even work (for me) if it were a small painting but at 4 foot it seems like too much trouble. Nice red-nosed alcoholic Poe, though!

This is great! I love the highlight on his nose..sometimes that little circle does a lot to making your portraits believeable. The fingers on her left hand are remarkable. I also like how you made Poe's skin tone lighter, giving him a slightly sickly look. It works well because I think that sickly is often the feeling that we get from Poe's works. Excellent job overall.
